Shana "Sunshine" Baynard
Safe Shelter Community Health Worker
Hello! My name is Shana Baynard. I have been part of Safe Shelter since 2023. I first arrived at Safe Shelter as a volunteer on Thanksgiving Day in 2023. I have always been drawn to this line of work. I love helping others and being around people.
I started off as an intern for Safe Shelter through Go Places. Along the way I got my Community Health Worker certification, and Peer Support certification. After a few months of my internship I was able to continue my employment through Next Gen, a program through the GoodWill Career Center.
I always had a feeling I would do big things and now I am standing right at the beginning of that journey. I left a job after 8 years to become a CHW for Safe Shelter. It has been the best decision yet! My team is absolutely amazing. We spend every Wednesday together through fellowship and food!
I am continuing my education and plan to return to school for a degree in social work. One of the perks about being in this line of work, is that the opportunities are never ending. But YOU gotta put in the work.
I am blessed to work with such amazing people and see where I am making an impact. I am planted and I am running towards greatness. I am grateful to have the support and encouragement through so many individuals. God put on my heart to make a move and I am forever thankful he did. There is nowhere else I would rather be and nothing else I would rather do!
